Windows Media Player Vs. Real Player

I downloaded an updated version of Windows Media Player today -- Version 10 -- and the installation seemed to go well. I use WMP for .wmv files and I use Real Player for .mpg and .avi files. During the installation, I opted to not make WMP the default player for .mpg and .avi files, because I wanted to keep using Real Player for those.

That didn't work. Now when I download .mpg or .avi files, I get a weird web page that has a sound tracking bar and a stop/start button but no picture. I've tried to configure WMP and RP to work together but have had no luck. For now, I've set the tools/options page on WMP to be default for all video files, but I'd like to get back to using Real Player for .mpg and .avi files.

I thought I might fix the problem but updating my version of Real Player -- currently Version 7.0 -- but when I click on "check for update" under tools, I keep getting the message: "Unable to connect. Please ensure you are connected to the Internet, or try again later."

You might want to go back to an older version of WMP. I've been seeing alot of people with problems with version 10. Microsoft hasn't had all the bugs worked out yet. I have 9.0 and it seems to work fine with my Real Player. Version 10 may be having conflicts with other media programs.
