Alright, I'm back with a new issue: I have WinXP of course, WMP 10-series, but whenever there's an embedded WMP video to watch it has the look of the old win98 media player, where you can't make it fullscreen and still have the controls, and clicking the vid itself pauses it. Is there a way to fix this?

Does this happen at all sites you visit? Or only certain ones?

    All of them..

    Click Start > Run > type regsvr32.exe msdxm.ocx

    See if that does it.

I shouldn't have to restart to get positive results, should I?

You shouldn't have to, but it's windows, couldn't hurt. ;)

If MataCumbie's suggestion does not work, then what browser are you using?

There could be an extension mishap here.

Certain apps, will run differently with certain browsers.

If, .mpg was associated with mplayer2.exe, then there may be a problem.

So, how does one change associations? This can be a long and drawn out process.

There maybe an easier way. Maybe. :)

    Open/run mediaplayer 10 ("C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe")

Now, right click on (or near) Windows media player (upper left corner)....yes, there are other ways...

Next, click on tools, options, then the "File Types" Tab. Make sure all the boxes are checked (not just greyed out checks, just white boxes with checks in them). Now, once this is done, click yes, and try your online videos....

Well MataCumbie's suggestions didn't work, I'm using Firefox and it's just now causing this problem. It hasn't done it until just a few days ago.
I've tried the file associations trick, and it doesn't seem to work either. They just get greyed-out again for some reason, and I uninstalled Quicktime anyway.

Try Winamp instead of Windows Media Player. I like it alot better, and haven't run into a video it couldn't play.

But does winamp play embedded videos on webpages?

Actually I tried that, and WMP -STILL- opens many of the movie files that Winamp is supposed to open. I removed all of WMP's file associations and it's still opening them like the file types thing doesn't matter.

Oh, some info to add here: I just got through installing ZoneAlarm Antivirus about a week ago, and that's when it started doing this.

Here's my two cents. Unless you have some malware on your computer that's creating other issues, this can only be one of two things.
    Codecs.
    File associations.
My suggestion is to get "Real Player alternative" and "Quicktime alternative".
They both come bundled with a modified media player classic and between the two, you will be able to play every file out there.

I got XP codec pack and it came with the classic player, but the classic player doesn't come embedded, and doesn't have the fucntionality of WMP 10 series.

To make matters worse, the XP codec pack has only the capabilities of windows media player v1 or v2 or something ancient like that, and winamp won't play mp4s with video... and I think ZoneAlarm has something to do with it. It must.

I'm thinking your on the right track with it being a problem with some combo of Firefox and Zone Alarm Antivirus, because I have the same issue.Only thing I've found that changes it is to reinstall Media Player 10-but it's going to happen again.I'm on XP Pro-not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I reinstalled it a while back, and it works great now. I agree that it's the combo. And I also have WinXP Pro, but stupid MS won't let me update to SP2. *Rolls Eyes* Blah.
Well, thanks for the help. ^_^

Why won't MS allow you to update, has to be a reason?
