I am trying to upgrade my computer and the one I have was preloaded with Windows ME and I would like to know if there is a site where it could be completely downloaded . I do have the product key for it. I will be putting in a new hdd and I would like to start out fresh then install my Windows XP home upgrade. Can the XP upgrade be installed without the ME in place? Any help or advise with this would be appreciated.

The XP install might install, you can try that. The CD that came with that serial number is probalby needed, so if you dont have it, your probaly out of luck. Worst case you can Ebay for a used copy.

xp upgrade will not install without a previous version of windows available -- on a cd or in your pc. try plugging the hdd with ME on it somewhere other than primary master, with the new hdd as primary master. You should be able to do a fresh install
