Windows Movie Maker & Win2000

After doing some research, it appears that Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker will not run under Win2000, only Windows XP. I think I saw that there's an older version that runs under Win9x/ME, but, again, doesn't run under Windows 2000.... what's up with that?!?!?! A friend of mine was recently given a laptop with Win2000 pre-loaded. I updated it to SP4 and installed DX9c and WMP9 for her, but she wants/needs Movie Maker. So, I guess my question is: is there a suitable free replacement for Movie Maker that will run under Windows2000 SP4? It must be easy to use, and 100% free (no 'watermarks' or trials please ).... any ideas will be appreciated! Thanx!
