Windows needs the system disk!

hi,, every time i boot up my other comp it asks for the system disk..It was a fresh install boots up every now and then but generally asks for the disk each time.. any ideas? O brand new hard drive...

 

I would enter BIOS, make sure that the hard drive is set as the first boot device, and restart the machine a few times, entering BIOS again each time, checking that your hard drive is consistently detected by the system.

"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
if insert disk it's fine but if i don't it's temperemental

 

is it a sata or ide hdd?

 

Brand new hard drive but how old is the 'my other comp' ?
Disk boot failure is a BIOS error message telling you that it could not find a valid operating system on the hard drive (or find the hard drive).
Could this be because the motherboard battery is old or because the bios is old and needs upgrading to match your new hard drive properly?

Check also the seating of the connectors and try a new cable to the hard drive.

I've had problems in the past with sata hdd's booting too fast and then it won't see my os producing the same error message.

 

sounds intruiguing please explain further.
