I have a Windows 10 Home 64 bit laptop that refuses to install the Netfx20sp_ia64 download that is needed.

When I boot up the computer I get a message that Net Framework 2.0 is required to continue.

I have the necessary download in my files and when I click the Net Framework 2.0 button and it starts up, I get a message to go to control panel & turn Windows features on or off. In the Windows on or off feature, The Net Framework 2.0 box is filled so I unchecked it and it searches Windows that downloads the needed files. I restarted the computer and the updates are installed.

After rebooting, the Net Framework message is still there. The updates obviously failed. I did it all over again and still couldn't get the updates installed.

Has anyone have the Same problem and knows the cure?

Thank you Plodr for your reply.

I'm sorry to say that I do not have a Win 10 on disk or USB. I guess I will have to continue running the OS with out it.

    Where did you download this?
IA64 refers to Intel Itanium Processor. And it does not support Windows 10.
A program that starts with Windows requires .NET Framework 2.0, not Windows itself.
    Your doing it wrong.
    • Check the box next to .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
    • Click OK.
    • Click Download files from Windows Update.
    • Restart your PC.

I already checked the box next to .NET Framework 3.5.

The Windows update was installed but in the final window they have a message (You might have to restart apps that require this feature) That feature pops up every time I boot up. In that pop up window it reads:

(Required System software Not Installed. Microsoft .Net Framework Version 2.0 is required to continue). You said that Net Framework 2.0 is not Windows itself. If the System Software is not Windows OS 10 what is?

I may be wrong but if that pop up continues in every boot up, I think the Windows update isn't FULLY installed.

    You posted...
    Which is it?
    I said...
Windows 10 itself doesn't need .NET Framework 2.0 to run.
Look at the startup items in Task Manager.

That is cool the way you have quotes and who said it. How is that done?

I unchecked the Net Framework box in Windows turn features on or off.

The Net Framework 2.0 is not in the start up items in task manager. Then I can just ignore it.

When you click Reply at the bottom right of the post, the whole post is quoted.
If you want to quote just part of a post, just select/highlight that part, and click the Reply button that appears.
    It won't be.
The program that requires it is what you need to look for.
