Windows not booting up

I am building a PC, and when i turn it on, it never gets to the windows loading screen after detecting the hardrives and everything. All i get is a black screen. I have tried configuring it so that it boots from the CD rom so that i could try and reinstall windows because I thought it might be caused by me using my other computer to install windows on it, but it does the same thing.

any ideas?

 

Have you changed anything in bios, other than the boot selection?

no, as far as i know their on default settings.

 

You have some hardware that is preventing boot.

Could you try to boot with the Bare-Bone basics and let me know how it goes.

Also, how much ram and how many ram sticks do you have?

If you have more than one, try booting with one stick and change them around in the dimm slots.

Also, you could download Memtest86+ and see if your ram is ok.

Download the .ISO file, burn it too a disk with burning software, then boot from CD and insert your CD of Memtest86+.

Ok, it was my graphics card. Would you happen to know as to why the crad was preventing windows from starting?

 

Well, a faulty video card can cause many problems.

Can you boot into windows using onboard (if your mobo as onboard)?

yeah, no worries, I got it all set up. I have 3 extra graphics cards as well as countless other pc parts laying around. but now windows wont activate. dont suppose you can help me there?

thats the thing, i allready tried activating it over the internet but i keep getting an error that says "unable to establish a connection with the activation server"

 

Ok, try this:

• Click Start --> Run --> and type in Regedit.

• Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents

• In the right pane, right-click OOBETimer, and then click Modify

• Change at least one digit of this value to deactivate Windows

• Click OK and close regedit

• Click Start --> Run and type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"

• Click "Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and then click Next

• Click Change Product Key (at the bottom)

• Enter your valid Corporate Product Key

• Press Update and close the window.

• If you are returned to the previous window, click Remind me later

• Restart your computer

It should now be activated, to make sure verify it:

• Click Start --> Run

• Type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" without the quotes.

• Make sure the dialog box says 'your copy of windows is already activated'

Are you trying to activate an O/S that has been installed on a previous computer?

If so, you'll need to phone MS and let them know your installing it on a new computer, so that they can deactivate the key.

yeah, i'm using the same windows cd thats on my main computer, is that why is not registering?

 

Yes, that is the reason why it won't activate on your new computer.

Your going have to get a new license, or deactivate the key on that computer, then use it on your new one. But you will need to phone MS so that they know of the change.

Nah, i'm just gonna get a new copy of windows. the reason I built the other computer was to run a dedicated server for a game on it 24/7. its not NEARLY as powerful as my main.
