Windows not starting

    i got a computer in today and it keeps restarting right after the startup options screen. i checked the ram, HD, cpu, and power supply. i guess its probably the motherboard but i just wanted a second opinion.

    Could be multiple things .... power supply, bad ram, corrupt hard drive (MBR).
    or mobo ....try getting into the bios ...see if it will stay up in bios ...
    If so, but still keeps rebooting ....pull all but one stick of ram out, disconnect all but hard drive and see what it does ...
    And lastly, consider doing a repair install of the os (assuming xp, here) and see if it runs through the set-up
    Report back.:)

    heres everything i did to it. reinstalled windows, changed harddrive, installed windows, put one stick of ram in at a time, tried last known good config, swapped cpu with one i know works, replaced power supply.

    Well crap ....if you've done all that (you could actually install an operating system? If so, what happened exactly?)
    It's sounding like a mobo issue ....got another laying around?

    nah ill have to order one. i work for the state. and i really didnt install an os i used ghost. it makes life easier.

    thanks for the link but we order all our stuff from hp. one of the guys is hp certified or something and he gets discounts and nextday shipping. and its the states money :)

    Meant to make one more suggestion ....slave the hard drive to another 'puter and run a check disk on that drive .... but then you did say you tried a different hhd.....and it's an hp? Mine died a few short months after I got it ...was running store accounts and needed new board asap, so hp was a real butt about the warra:mad: nty (as in send it to us or eat it!):mad:
