Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Help.

I dont know what i have uninstalled but my 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer' doesnt seem to work when i want to view my photos.

Does anyone know why?

 

Click Start > Run > type in control folders

When Folder Options comes up select the "File Types" TAB. In the list of extensions, locate the following:

JPG
JPEG
BMP
GIF

Select each one and click "Change", in the list find "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and click OK to select it.

Do this for each one and it should work, if it does not let me know.

 

No that didnt fix it??

 

Did you check and see if that is the default viewer for those file types?

 

If it is the default viewer for those file types,

Click Start > Run > type in regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

Reboot, and try it again.

Do you know what i would have done to cause the problem.

 

Could have been anything, sometimes a DLL can get unregistered or something like that.

Perhaps you ran a patch for the WMF security flaw as unregistering shimgvw.dll was part of many workarounds.

 

Yeah i did? Does that mean i should run the patch again? If so will that cause the same problem again?

 

If you have applied the patch there is no need to apply it again.
