You guys helped me through problems late last year and suddenly this morning, I'm having problems again. I reviewed the issues I had last year, but I can't get those things to work this time.

I've tried deleting software I don't want, I've tried installing software to diagnose, but I get the same error message:

The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I'm going to get my back up disk and see if I can repair my installation and then try to update my Windows 7.

I can't attach any screen shots of anything important, Control Panel will not work below the major headers.

Start with Method 3 under the Resolution setting and tell us
    a) if you have the service listed
    b) what the current status is (choices are started, stopped, manual)
    c) Try to start it and post what happens

Do not try anything else until someone follows up to your post telling us your reults to a, b and c.

As soon as I begin typing in the search box, the screen goes white. I then get the error message:

Windows cannot find 'Search:query=Services.msc'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.'

I double checked that I had typed the correct file name, but it is what you told me to type.

I can't replicate your error. I will have to do some looking to see what is going on.

Click the Orb, then Control panel.
Set the View by: (over on the right) to small icons.
Click Administrative Tools then Component Services.
    Click on Services (Local).
Do you have services listed in the middle pane?

I can't get to it, can't get below the major headers in Control Panel. That was the first thing I tried.

Services.msc should be located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder if you want to start it manually.

The windows installer is listed as a manual start, but not running. I was able to start it.

I tried 2 restore points and both were "damaged." The next restore point is from Aug 2012 and I'm not really liking that.

I forgot to tell you that this all started when I tried to remove a program using revo uninstaller pro. It's something I believe I downloaded from here during a previous resolution. Everything went goofy after that.

I tried to do another Windows repair, but am still getting the same error when I do that:

Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer.

I also looked in the services for anything that might be stopped or disabled and tried a few things, but nothing is working.

    What am I missing?

When you used Revo Uninstaller, you probably deleted something that was not in bold type. This means you deleted something vital to Windows setup.

Maybe someone can tell you how to do a Win 7 repair. I never repair, I simply grab an Acronis image from an earlier time, load that and then update what needs to be updated.

Acronis Image? Sorry, I don't know what that is.

I tried to use restore points, but Windows said they were bad, then deleted them.

So, how do I configure my system so Windows can do a repair? I keep getting the message that it can't read the disk drives. Here's what I've done:

Changed the permissions to include my user acct (also an admin acct)
Turned on anything that looked like it involved a hard drive in the local services
Checked the antivirus and malware protection was off
    Windows firewall on
Looked at the security settings for all drives to make sure admin/my acct had read/write permission

I'm at a loss for what else to do. Do you know if any services that I might have missed?

Thanks again for all of your help. All the Revo info says is to restore to the restore point it created, but I already told you Windows says it was bad and deleted it automatically.

    What do I do next?
