   Vonnie Sergeant

   Trying to reformat an old win 98 machine.
   It goes just past the format of hd and scan,
   then stops with the message 'Windows protection error'
   I tried safe mode and still doesnt work.
   Any ideas what may be the cause?

   have you used Fdisk to delete and recreate the partition then format and install again?

   Not sure what I did.
   I have a book and win98 cd and just do what the book says.
   It always worked before.
   I will try the link you gave.
