Is there a way for me to remote desktop (graphically, not with a terminal like PuTTy) into a Linux-based VPS?

Have you tried VLC? It's often preinstalled on linux distros. There are many flavors... RealVNC, UltraVNC, TightVNC, etc.

yes there is!! i use Ubuntu Linux distro and mine works seamlessly... the app i use is called "terminal server client". it is usually installed into the OS by default. but can be found in the add/remove area using the default repositories.
this app will allow you to select the protocol (rdp p3389) for different Os's with a drop down menu.
