I was having a problem with win xp pro simply rebooting in the middle of operating. It was a pain. Id come back to some hardware failure message from windows. Then it started that whenever id boot up i would have a hardware failure and i would have to reboot. usually the second boot up would be fine.

Microsoft walways blamed the CPU so I set off to find out for myself if anything was wrong with the CPU. I formatted everything. Clean install of xp. firefox. adaware. spybot. everything works but my ipod and the usb controller show sup in device manager as either not installed or having something wrong with it.

Enter MS Update and re-enter my problems. update makes me update to some hotfix. Again with the hardware failures. I unstall the hotfix. no problems. usb still not working though.

I install MS Service Pack 1. Everything, including USB, works fine for a few hours. Then, bam computer hardware failure. reboot.

Whats the deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance guys!

I updated to the newest chipset drivers and thought it was fixed. Then, get this, as I am writing a reply to you thanking you, I get the bluescreen of death and my system shutdown.

The bluescreen was not visible long enough to read it so I dont know what it said but here is the error signiture that I got when windows rebooted and asked to send feedback:

    BCCode : 1000007f BCP1 : 00000008 BCP2 : F7AFBD70 BCP3 : 00000000
    BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 256_1

Does this mean anything to you?

    Thanks again.

Hit the windows key + the pause break key, or right click on "my computer" and select properties.

Now go to the "advanced" tab, then click settings under "startup and recovery"

    Uncheck the box "Automatically restart".

When/if the BSOD appears again, posting the information here could/may help use troubleshoot your problem.......

Also, see if there are any bios updates for you motherboard......

Thanks. I found a BIOS update. Mine was last updated 2002/2003. Why would this help?

Do I need a floppy drive to update my BIOS? I currently do not have one.
