Im having problems with a PC thats really playing up - system restore is blank for some reason so I cannot go back to an earlier date (it is switched on). Windows is giving unusual random problems liek when I go onto the Internet i cannot click on certain icons on the web & when i try to download firefox it gave a problem which states:

error occured during installation - cross platform COM:--322 init-STUB_ERROR

I have tried booting into safe & cannot get into it because a message appears stating:

Windows registry recovery - one of the files containing the systems registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful. This doesnt go away & always appears upon booting up. Its seems that something in the registry is causing problems here because the Internet issue happened the same time these message started appearing & the same with the system restore.

I have tried F8 last known good configuration & now totally stuck?? Please see log. Can someone help?

Just thought id add - i can enter windows sometimes by quickly clicking OK button on the Windows Registry Recover message thats appears & gives my access to the PC. I can surf the web but the problems are still there with the firefoc issue mentioned earlier, as well as the system restore problem & buttons that do not click on lots of websites.

I believes its all related to this registry problem, i cant see what could have caused it because its a fairly new rebuild? I use a problem called tune up utilities that has a built in registry fix that is run on a regular basis & I also run ad-aware 7 AVG scans ona regular basis so im baffled why its causing this?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dean

Your problem is probably that tune up utility. I don't trust them. After running one I always have one or two programs that need reinstalling.

If you can get back into windows save your documents, email, favourites, etc to a cd. You might soon be completely locked out.

It's going to be hard to repair a corrupted registry unless the utility that you used has a backup feature.

If you end up formating then once you get into XP again the first thing to do is to go to system restore, turn it off, reboot, go back & turn it on. It should automatically create its own restore point. From there system restore will work when you next need it.
