Haven't been around for the last 3-4 months, but of course when I need you guys and girls I come running back unashamedly!

Running XP Pro on a custom built machine, Prescott ed. P4 Processor, etc etc....other specs if you need them; just ask.

I get the following error message when I boot the 'puter, and again when I select my user ID:

    "Windows-Registry Recovery"
i "One of the files containing the Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful."

This error message occurs three times during boot up (longer, if I leave the machine running for a while) and again once or twice when I select my ID to logon.

I have Registry Mechanic, which is no help, and other programs meant to clean up the registry (e.g. CCleaner) are also of no help.

I also notice that the computer seems to "screw up" a lot more than when I first built it. By screw up, I mean that certain apps will terminate and prompt an error report to Microsoft. This usually happens with Explorer when I'm offline (I don't use the browser but as you know I can't get away from it altogether) and sometimes with Firefox when I'm online, but it could happen with any prog I use. It ran a lot better with SPI, and hasn't been the same since I installed SPII, although I suspect that the problem is related to my BIOS microcode (I have the dreaded Prescott ed. P4 which caused so much joy when SPII was first released, and although I ran Microsoft's hotfix for this, I still am afraid to install the BIOS upgrade, particularly if I can't be sure that it will solve anything.) In fact, when I was running SPI, it never tried to send an error report.........it just plain worked, fast and flawless, every time I wanted it to....but times were simpler then; the world was still fresh and magical, the colors brighter, the birds happier.......you know the drill.

However, I bet someone out there knows exactly what is up. As always, I am grateful for your ideas.

P.S. I run sweeps/scans/cleanings on a regular basis. (AdAware; Spybot/Spyware blaster; CCleaner (after every surfing session); AVG antivirus; Registry mechanic, occasionally XPepius or MoveOnBoot if I'm doing some tweaking/cleaning.
