am running windows 7 x64. i just installed the drivers for the Chipset nForce 780i SLI with the 15.53 motherboard package. it came with Ethernet driver ver. 73.2.0.0. The network icon at the bottom right of the screen says that i have internet access. but when i open firefox or internet explorer, I have no internet. firefox just have an "untitled" tab which is blank. and IE says it cannot display the webpage. I would appreciate any and all help no matter how big or small it is, thank you for your time. =3

Some more info. the cords are good, all lights on hub are green and flashing. and my xbox (on same hub) connects to the internet. However I'm not sure what this would mean but there are two lights with the Ethernet cord one is a solid green light and one is a flashing orange light. not sure if this will help but i included a photo with terrible lighting. Thanks

Ok, sounds like the physical connection is great and the settings need a little help.

Can you tell me a little about your network? Other devices, how are they connected? What are they connected to? Are you using a router? Is DHCP enabled? Security?

It sounds like you are connected to the router or modem but the settings that would get your through to the internet (DNS? or an ip or gateway setting) isn't correct. Can you run an ipconfig /all and copy it here?

My network is in the picture, the SMC router has RG Functions: Enabled, NAT: Enabled, DHCP Server: Enabled and, Firewall: Enabled,
    GATEWAY
    DHCP Gateway IP Address: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    upnp enabled
    DNS Proxy IP Address: 192.168.0.1

    the Dlink router
    IP: 192.168.0.2
DHCP disabled (i was told to do this if i had more than one router)
    firewall enabled
    upnp enabled
    Connection Type : DHCP Client

    QoS Engine : Active

    Cable Status : Disconnected
    DNS Status : Offline
    Network Status : Disconnected
    Connection Up Time : N/A
    MAC Address : 00:22:15:7F:91:F9
    Authentication & Security :

    Subnet Mask : 0.0.0.0
    Default Gateway : 0.0.0.0

    That picture helps a lot.

If you go to Start > Run and type in the CMD (press ok) you should get a black command box. If not go Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Try the ipconfig /all command in there.

It could be a lot of simple things, some don't fit with all of the messages that you've gotten but I'll check them anyway. ipconfig would show if it were any of the following:
you have a static ip set in the wrong range
you have a static ip that conflicts with another device (usually gives a warning but not always)
you have been assigned the same ip as the second router
all of the dhcp addresses in the range are taken

The computer was online before the change? I can't imagine it needs this but while you have the command prompt open, try the command: ipconfig /flushdns

I have also seen that problem with the "Limited or No Connection" message.
Usually a hard reset of the modem gets it going again.

hrlow2 its not "Limited or No Connection" it actually says internet access which is the silly thin. :/

handygal ya i remember trying to explain the my network on these forums before. it was really hard to and confusing to explain so i thought this would be much easier. :D

ok, i'm going to look into something i see in there that shouldn't matter but I'll check. The rest of it looks fine

Try the ipconfig /flushdns and also ipconfig /renew commands.

hrlow2 is right, the very first recommendation should have been to to turn off the computer, turn off the router, then restart the router and restart the computer. Especially if the router has been on since before you made the changes. Routers like to keep bits of info. You connected before and it recognizes you but you've changed, they don't like that.

Do this, Click "start" "run" then type into that box cmd, then hit enter. Then do "ping 127.0.0.1 and post results, then ping 192.168.0.1 then ping google.com. After pinging google.com it should give you a local google ip address, open your internet browser and try to put that ip into the address bar instead of google.com put for example 74.125.227.49 this will give us a direction to indicate if its a dns resolution problem or something else. And please post results of the various pings and dns test.

I can't think of anything that could be but the dns. I fully expected to see a different DNS setting between the computers too with those results. Did you run the flushdns command and reboot the router?

You could try replacing the dns server setting with 4.2.2.2 -- it's been slow lately but it should work for you.

Hey guys, I believe i fixed the problem,
I installed Nvidia access manager (piece of garbage) and threw in a netgear router where my hub was. I'm not sure how this fixed the problem but w/e. is there anything i should know about the settings in my netgear router? disable DHCP or anything like that? its strange that before this problem, when i had the hub i would have internet access but NO upload speed but now that i have the netgear router, i have a DL speed of 35mbps before was like 20mbps and now i have an upload speed of like 1.5mbps where before i got 0mbps. my network is . . . . strange.

I think i know what it was. I thought of it before but then got into another line of thought and forgot about it. You have 2 routers. Look up Double NAT, i think even wiki has an article on it, i'd go there. I have a feeling you had double NAT, will give you slow or flaky internet with odd symptoms and connection issues.

Sorry I didn't go over that with you sooner. I saw your DHCP disabled comment and was thinking to ask if you were told to disable NAT on the router as well.

If your computer is getting the proper IPs. Check Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings.

Uncheck Proxy Settings if it is checked. A lot of malware causes this to become checked.

  26. Shane Thrice

    Shane Thrice Private First Class

    Thanks baxter, it is unchecked,

is the nat the routers ip address?
cause the SMC routers ip is 192.168.0.1
the dlink router is bridged with an ip 192.168.0.2
and the netgear one(was hub) is 192.168.1.1

  27. Baxter Stockman

    Baxter Stockman Private First Class

It is most likely the Hub.

Try connecting the cable directly to your computer instead of to the Hub and see if you get a connection. Might want to try a hard restart of everything if it doesn't work right away.

If you don't, then it is most likely some configuration problem on the computer.

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm new here and the thread layout confused me. I'm used to reading it the other way around. Page 2 being the most current posts everywhere else but here. :confused

It was definitely the router in place of the hub then.

The setting to reverse the order is in

And no it wasn't the router, nvidia media manager likely fiddled with a driver or some internal option, i know some of the nvidia chips have a bit in firewall on the nic, that maybe it fliped off or something.

  33. handygal

    handygal First Sergeant

but it was an INSTALL that fixed it? I'm baffled and I still think that double NAT could have caused this, the new router and manager install might be blocking the problem.

We still didn't answer the final question which is, anything to adjust on the THIRD routers settings? (is that right? there are 3 routers?)

You can turn off DHCP. I'm not going to suggest anything else because I'm not sure how this is working now. Colemanguy?

  34. Colemanguy

Installing something on the computer indicates to me that its not a network or routing issue, because if it was, software wouldn't have fixed it.

  35. handygal

This was the two part solution. Software and hardware. There is another router on here now, possibly the third one. Any suggestions on what you would turn off on a third router that is working and fixed the previous speed issues?
