    Hi,

I've got the following situation: if there is a disc in the drive the boot time is 10 s to a responsive desktop.
If there is no disc in the drive the boot is 15 s to a responsive desktop.

Why is Windows scaning for a disc?....(I can see every time DVD Writer led blinking with the boot)... Some other systems do not scan...

Can you please advise how can i disable it...
My OS is Windows 7 and I have a Samsung ssd, rapid mode enabled.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,

You forgot to mention that the OP needs to boot into the bios in order to do that.

    thanks for looking but
    it was already done.
the ssd is the only option in the boot process... that is the problem. why windows (not BIOS) powering CD/DVD.
I even disabled the unit and still Windows opening it.

    donetao, I don't understand.
hard disk / ssd is already 1st option and the only option in the boot.
I know how to enter the BIOS...
if it was that simple I wouldnt have come here...

oh, sorry, i thought you said you didn't have an answer from my side. :)

    Short, I have 3 problems:

    1. why windows is initializing the cdrom (all other machines I've seen don't do that).
    2. even if initialized why it makes a difference if I have or not a disc in the unit.
    3. how is it possible a disc in the unit could make the boot faster... the empty drive leading to the 5 secs delay.

I know it's not that big deal but the issue is driving me nuts. :)
I tried everything, uninstalling the drive, firmware update, uninstalling emulation programs, missing devices etc.

    thanks for the effort!
