Windows Search Settings (when Using "start Menu Search")

I want windows search to not search my files, and only search apps and settings. I don't need to search for files very often because for that I just use the search feature that's in file explorer (I would imagine that I am not missing out on much with this approach).

I see that when I start a search, there is a dropdown with choices ("everywhere," etc.). However, I don't want to select a choice every time.

I am on Windows 8.1
However, I am also interested in configuring the same setting for Windows 10, which I haven't looked into.

 

What you want is built in to Win 10. Can't check 8.1 atm.​

 

Hmm.. I don't see the settings on my computer.
Does it seem like you are able to have it search only apps and setting for all future searches (without having to tell it to search only those each time that you do a search)?

 

I can't see any way to make it default so need to select each time. Can't see anything for 8.1.

 

I wasn't thinking that I would need to deal with Microsoft office settings.
I guess a fix that applies to just Microsoft office files would be useful. Although I am looking to exclude all files.
