    Hi,

I just formatted my windows xp, and reinstalled it.... however i encountered a problem....

my friend has a legit copy of windows xp, but i can't find the key. he's out for the summer, vacation. i was using it before i formatted so i used the xp key viewer, but it didn't show the last set of the code so it was like

    20ks29k-2k9s29k-92sk29k-9k2sk29-XXXXXX

i thought the XXXXXXX was part of the code but yeah when i entered it didn't work.... then i asked my other friend gave me working key but i can't update my windows with that key it's illegal or something?

now is it possible for me to get the old serial number I had before? i am only missing the last section of the code. any help pls or i have to wait until my friend comes back?

    thx in advance

You'll need to wait for your friend. There is no practical way for anyone to guess what it could be.

You need to read the EULA of your windows. I'm pretty sure its ilegal to use the same single user key on multiple computers.

I think you were using a keyfinder utility that wasn't free I can't remember which one.

I wrote one my self which is much better and can be downloaded here

The only 'downside' (Which isn't actually a downside in my book) is that it requires the MS .NET 2.0 Framework.

Oh my bad... but he has a company that uses legal copies of windows. i thought as long as u own the copy u can use it o.o i have 95 legit too but i think i lost it. then he must need like 50x legit copies O_O?

btw ty for ur program! i'll save it for future uses.

You pay for the license. Not the disc. If his company owns a volume license for 50 computers then if you work for him there should be no issue with using it.

Windows 95 is outdated (not to mention 16bit) and not supported by MS anymore.

Oh ok, thanks for the information. I'll ask him when he gets back from his vacation I guess. I don't know if it's an extra copy of windows XP key he gave me or one that he is using. Hopefully it's an unused one  thx!

It really sucks cuz I am only missing the last section of the code! and i have to wait a couple of weeks until he gets back ;(

btw do u have also have a winXP cd key changer?

I think the question has been answered, so closing just to avoid the usual answer that one person will eventually offer here that is not legal. Nothing personal :)
