We have a Windows 2000 Server (SP-3) running our SQL database for a CAD and records system. I've just begun looking at ways to improve it since buying a new one is out of our budget right now.

As far as the server, is there any reason it should have all the "Windows Update" stuff I would put a normal PC. There are lots of security updates, DirectX 9.0, and Service Pack 4. I'm going to check with out software consultent on compatibility. Is there anything else I should be concerned about that would be contraindicate me installing these updates?

    Thanks,
    Matt

SP4 is a must. It's a server so you can do withouth the media player, dx updates etc. But the critical updates are essential. Running a non sp4 server is asking for trouble.
