I was just wondering if anyone knows which is the better firewall, Mcafee or the firewall that is included in Windows XP Service Pack 2? Also, is it safe to have both running at the same time or is it better to just have 1? Any help would be appreciated!

Don't think it's safe to have 2 AV's running at the same time, as they can conflict.........
I personally would never rely on the XP firewall. Mcafee I have no experience with.
I use Avast Home Edition as my AV, and find it very good (it's also free, and they have a super forum).

There is a download here at MajorGeeks

There may be others that prefer something else...............:)

He never mentioned anything about an antivirus in his post..

In any case, I would use a router and maybe something like outpost or kerio for a software side firewall. Running two software firewalls (they are not antivirus programs) at the same time is not recommended.

Don't let it happen again or you will be tied to a chair with duct tape and forced to smell CP's nasty, sweaty socks. :p

That would be OK (how nasty can CP's socks be), but feel really bad confusing HasSanK.................

Now what was the question again

Oh yes...............I use Kerio and disable XP firewall. Also have PC-cillin security installed (includes firewall) have had no conflict. I did have Outpost for awhile and had Major Conflicts (no relation to Major Geeks). I have since given Outpost it's walking papers.

The XP firewall works perfectly well for incoming data, but it has no means of detecting/controlling outgoing data. Therefore things like dialers, keyloggers & other trojans can send info out through it. This is the one major reason an aftermarket firewall which can do both should be used.

    I prefer incoming only detection.

Basically HasSank you should use a firewall other than just the one that comes with XP.
