Windows SP2 Install problem w/ rasapi32.dll

Hello.

I attempted to install Windows SP2 through Windows update, and I get the same message each time:

"Setup cannot copy the file rasapi32.dll

Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert 'Windows XP System Files' in the drive you specify."

(The location listed below defaults to: c:\windows\system32\)

Microsoft Help & Support has the same problem listed for other files, but none for rasapi32.dll.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

 

Is there actually a rasapi32.dll file in c:\windows\system32?

 

I'd doa chkdsk and see if it finds any errors. Very common with files that cannot be moved, deleted, or upgraded.

 

I have a HP with ME on it and I keep getting a mewssage that says The PERSED.DLL file is linked to missing export RASAPI32.DLL I ahve tried to copy files to this computer but nothing helps. It wont let that computer online anymore and I am having trouble with it!
