    Hey

Could someone please help me with my Windows Startup. I followed the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure by Chaslang and then posted my logs and had a Malware Expert (TimW) check my logs and help me out from there. After finishing that process, I noticed after I ran msconfig that "Selective Startup" was checked and checked "Normal Startup" instead since most forums I read indicated to use Normal Startup.

(FYI: I ran CCleaner after I switched to Normal startup. I also have a defrag program that was recommended but haven't used it yet.)

Now that I have switched to Normal Startup, there are many more icons on the taskbar at the bottom right of my screen that weren't there before. Also, after the switch, when I turn my computer on, a Dell Network wizard pops up alot, and some program pops up trying to tell me to activate my Microsoft office and/or asking me to navigate through microsoft office like i haven't used it before; a windows popup also keeps telling me that my guest account is disabled and asks me if i want to enable it and a windows popup trying to analyze my network or something like that?... After the switch now, my internet seems to connect and disconnect randomly or more often...it won't stay connected for some reason.

I am sorry for the uncertainty and maybe computer illiteracy with these problems. I would appreciate some help and advice with getting these problems fixed.

I have attached a .txt file of some things that are listed on the Startup Tool that I downloaded. I haven't used this Tool yet, and honestly I'm not quite sure how to use it or what I should do.

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition. I would be grateful for some advice and help with these issues.

    Thanks

I've never used that program, startup tool, so I'm not sure what you need to do to stop things from loading at startup.
    1. updateMgr for Adobe 7 does not need to load at startup
    2. Spybot Teatimer should be turned off through the Spybot program
    3. Pinnacle driver check doesn't need to run
    4. SunJava Update does not need to run
    5. UpdReg from Creative does not need to run
    6. TkBellExe. a Real update scheduler does not need to run
    7. QuickTime Task does not need to run
    8. PCMService from Cyberlink does not need to run
    9. Adobe Reader speedup launch link doesn't need to run

There may be others. I'm not sure about what Dell items need to run at startup and which can be disabled. Maybe someone who owns a Dell can look in and tell you.

I own logitech mice and I disable all the logitech startup things. You might try it and see if your mouse and keyboard work as usual. If so, then all the logitech items can be disabled from startup.

I would personally disable all of them except the trend micro internet security and the adaware one. all others I would disable. Thats just me though. Also Turn off the teatimer on Spybot SD.

Well since the thread starter hasn't returned since February, I think he has decided not to take any advice.
