    Hi
I had a problem with Malware some time ago and the malware section of this forum helped me remove them (I think). Here is the thread for it:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=286369

They tried to help me resolve the inability to uninstall AVAST and succeeded to some extent.

However the Laptop is still slow to startup and I still see remnants of AVAST and AVG.

Avast still appears to be in the startup (I used REVO to try and uninstall it but still seem to have Avast at startup). CCleaner is unable to remove this.

AVG icon still appears in the control panel - uninstall a program, so I am guessing something is still there.

Also every time I shut down windows update reports an update to be installed. I do not believe this does get installed because IE11 update is never installed even though I have selected it in windows update.

I have tried to fix windows updarte on microsoft website but it is unable to fix the problem.

I attach belarc report in parts due to the size limitation of the pdf I can post (note belarc4 is slightly too big and I will have to shrink it and post next). Also I notece a few anomalies like:

administrator account (local system account) seems to have been disabled.

also the network map shows 192.168.0.7 Steven (in WORKGROUP), Microsoft Samba Server - not sure if this is simply my neighbour or someone logged into my system as I dont know any Steven and never created a user like that. The server is different from servers for other users.

Can anyone please help - I am not bery proficient in these matters.

    Thanks so much.

I'll post rest of the belarc reports - apologies for multiple posts.

Is this a stand-alone laptop or a mobile workstation connected to a server? Which version of Windows are you running?

There are specific utilities for removing:

    Avast!

    AVG

The slowdown of your laptop at Startup is undoubtedly due to running either or both of these AVs. If you're still running XP, the amount of RAM the wuauclt service occupies is humungous when running Avast! (674 MB).

P.S. If you had copied the Belarc Advisor report into Notepad as a text file then ZIP archived it, you might have been able to do it as a single attachment. PDFs take up a lot of space.

Its a standalone laptop running win 7 home premium SP1 - will try the two utilities but previously I had problems uninstalling Avast as it kept coming up with the message that Group policies were preventing the action I tried to take.

Don't know if this will help, but the avast removal tool I used here:

    http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility

Actually performed the action in safe mode. You must select the version to be removed, and then the program will run and remove whatever version was on the PC.

When I ran this, I wasn't sure if the removal tool removed all components backwardly, so I ran the tool for all the versions that had been on that PC at the time. I think I ran it like 5 times, once for each version. Each one of those required a reboot, so it was a little bit intensive, but I felt like I got it all, anyway...

    Thanks

I think I have removed Avast and AVG, cant see the remnants anyway. I'll restart a few times to see.

Any thoughts on the administrator account on local system being disables as Belarc reports?

Also still concerned about the network map showing 192.168.0.7 Steven (in WORKGROUP), Microsoft Samba Server - I have not created any Steven user.

I am not familiar much with accounts, but it seems to me that your PC may have been tampered with at some point. I suppose that could be from an network connection or in person.

    On the account being disabled:

Apparently this account is disabled by default on new installations of Windows 7 for improved security over previous versions...
