This may be a HW, SW or virus problem. I have started getting the Windows STOP error message KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, 0x0000007A with 2nd parameter as 0xc000000E.

This is on a Dell Diminsion 8250, 256RAM, 111G hard drive. No hardware or software has been added to cause this to start.

I checked in with Dell who ran a hardware check an found no problems.

I updated and ran Norton Antivirus and all OK.

I have checked the microsoft site and found no help.

So far it only happens when the machine has been idle for several minutes or when I try to run a defrag (via Norton utility). It has not happened when I am using the machine.

Any suggestions on next logical steps to take ? ?

that what i found so far:

The Stop 0x7A message indicates that a page of kernel data was not found in the paging (virtual memory) file and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers, firmware, or hardware.

And that this leads me to believe that the HD is dieing and needs remedial action.
