Windows/system32/config/system

Help!!!!

I was cleaning up my computer using Adaware, spybot and Norton Antivirus, all in safe mode. When I rebooted to go to Windows in normal mode, I was told that windows couldn't work because the windows/system32/config/system is missing.

The computer is a SONY vaio and the ony CDs that came with it are not allowing me to boot or do anything so that I could return to a system restore point.

Can I fix this myself? Is there a program I can download? I have another computer that can burn CDs and access the internet.

Was that the exact error message? I ask because that is a directory. Are you using XP or another flavour of Windows?

It is Windows XP.

The web is full of this problem, but no clear solution.

My main issue is that it doesn't seem to be booting properly from the System Recovery CD supplied by Sony with the computer. I do not have one clear CD labelled WINDOWS XP to boot from.

The message I get says that the file is missing or corrupt.

I am having the same problem but a little different. I cannot even log into my computer. It tells me to reinstall my original set up disk which I didn't receive with my computer.

What can I do?

 

Rather than tag onto an old thread it is best if you start a new one and then you can explain exactly what your symptoms are exactly.
