    So I just upgraded my computer yesterday. My new specs are as follow:

    Windows XP Pro sp2
    AMD X2 3800
    Asus A8N-SLI premium
    1Gig DDR RAM pc3200
    7600GT

    Yesterday my computer loaded at regular speeds but today I started it up and it takes over for the Microsoft Windows XP logo to finish loading windows.

    Is there any known solution for this?

    Speed up the Start Menu
    =======================

    The default speed of the Start Menu is pretty slow, but you can fix that by editing a Registry Key. Fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay

    By default, the value is 400. Change this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.

    Speed up the Start Menu (Part two)
    =========================
    If your confounded by the slow speed of the Start Menu, even after using the tip above, then you might try the following: Navigate to Display Properties then Appearance then Advanced and turn off the option titled Show menu shadow . You will get much better overall performance.

    Also go to users in the control panel and "change the way users logon and off ....uncheck both boxes.

    If I understand your post correctly, you're telling us that the first WinXP logo screen is visible for a long period of time, until Windows finally finishes loading and shows you the Desktop.

    If that is correct, this can be caused by several different factors, but before I spend a lot of time typing to describe the things to check, let me ask you if Windows works at full speed AFTER it loads, or if it ALWAYS runs slowly now. Your answer will help me determine the best way to advise you on what to do next.

    So, the question is this: Is the computer ALWAYS slow, from bootup to shutdown, or is it ONLY slow during bootup, then work normally once you get to the Desktop?

    It only takes a while on the Windows Logo with the blug bar that is loading. After it loads it works perfectly. When i first boot up the computer yesterday it was loading fast. Even my previous computer a p4 3ghz loads faster than this new x3800.

    Thanks for the info; right now, I have to wonder if you remembered to install the motherboard chipset drivers. If not, download them from Asus and install them right away, then reboot the system. If you STILL have problems after that, it usually indicates that Windows is trying to log onto some non-existant networks, but that is a different kettle of worms that I don't have time to explain right now.

    Anyway, the secondary culprit (after missing chipset drivers) is usually Winlogon.exe, though there are other Windows components which can affect the boot process as well...

    Bottom line is, download and install the chipset drivers from Asus, then reboot and see if that helps you resolve this (it can't hurt). Those drivers are NOT built into Windows, so you have to install them yourself.

    Keep us posted on your progress...

    I think MK is suggesting that you might have a network setting for a domain, and the network isn't there, so it is trying to find it before it can finish booting.

    You're right, TimW; I've been fighting a migraine all day, and I'm having a difficult time focusing on details. I DO suspect that WinXP is attempting to log onto a non-existant domain, which is why Windows is taking so long to load... the problem is, I can't focus well enough to remember which settings to change in Windows Networking...

    Hopefully, the pain will subside soon, and I'll be able to think more clearly, or at the least, Google some answers...

    Thanks for the input; your help is appreciated. MK

    Change domain error message
    Try this if you don't want the domain error message to come up:

    1) Click on the start menu, select run and type sysdm.cpl in the run box and press enter. The system properties box will open.

    2) Choose "Computer Name" tab

    3) Click the "Change" button

    4) Where it says "member of", change from domain to workgroup

    I installed onboard audio drivers and disabled SCSI Raid Controllers (I do not have a RAID setup).

    One of these fixed the problem. I just boot up and it loaded in 5 seconds :). I will bump this thread if this problem arises again.

    Suspect it was the raid controllers ...since you don't have that.
