Got directed to the Windows update site when I started up IE today - it then tells me this:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

I checked carefully but it seems I am still running Windows 98SE and not anyversion of the Mac OS. :D rolleyes

Us Mac users don't visit no stinking site. :p

Our software updaters pop up when updates come out and let us choose what we like.

I know what is wrong but not sure how to tell you how to fix it. ;)

Can you still "repair" IE from System Information in Win98?

Well yes you can "repair" IE in W98SE firly easily but as far as I'm concerned its the update site that needs repairing notmy copy of IE. But I'd be interested to know what you think is wrong.

Why would a repair site thats not supported an old os need fixing? Microsoft no longer cares about 98, so if the new updater stops working, not there problem.

That looks correct. Might be the site, but I would doubt it.

Well just tried it again with the same result. (And it does the same using Firefox after complaining about it not being IE) :)

Any proxies in play? Stuff like "ghostsurf" or other "privacy protection" software can cause this too.

Nope - nothing like that. This is the only time I've ever come across this problem. It's just rather odd.
