windows update and install problem

Hello-

Recently my update downloaded 11 updates to install, it installed but then a little while later it seems to want to reinstall the same 11 updates. Now it wants to reinstall 16 updates over and over.

Also when I try to use windows update I get this message: Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

The service is running and restarting my computer does not help.

Any help is much appreciated.
