I would appreciate any information concerning the inability to get updates from Windows site. I had problems with IE and XP where I had messages about critical missing files. The screen freezes when it is trying to recognize what I have to recommend updates. It never gets to the point where it either scans my system nor offers download options. Furthermore, when I try to manually download or install updates or other programs from Microsoft including Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player - I get numerous messages concerning compatibility - "not passing Windows Logo testing". I am assuming this is related. I have Windows XP professional. I thought I would add that I had a crash a month or so ago in which I lost some programs from my computer and to reinstall Windows XP and some Office components. Any ideas where to start. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. Did everything mentioned, still getting compatibility issues mentioning the Logo testing when I tried to download the Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet tools. Where can I go from here?
