On a business machine im running XP Pro and it downloads 74 updates but it can't install any of them. It says they fail every time. I was thinking about blowing away the folder that they get downloaded to just to start fresh but i forget what its called. Any help would be greatly appreciated and any other advice would be as well. Thanks

To resolve this problem, restart the BITS service.

To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
    2. In the list of services, double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Start.
    4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
    5. Restart the computer.

    Hope this helps :)

You say that its say that they fail. Can you either post the error message or do a screen print of what you're seeing. That may help.

ALT + Print Screen will grab the screen of just the currently open window. Thanks!!

It says "The following updates could not be installed" and then it says the list of all 74 of them. This is just in the popup that pops up when I click the yellow shield that says I have 74 downloads waiting to be installed.

XP installed on C drive? Windows is fickle...Gone to the Windows Update website and tried? Use Custom button to check out what you are installing beforehand, Usually install all security updates, and hardware updates. I stay away from IE7 as I run anti virus firewall software that can already do what updated IE does.

Yeah thanks, thats the right one and I renamed it and restarted windows and it started fresh by downloading them again but it still wont install the updates. its an XP Pro upgrade from XP Home so there shouldent be alot of problems beside the usual upgrade woes. It all went perfectly except for the update parts. hmmm confused
