Windows Update goes V6

    I just read your post and tried three XPSP2 computers that I have. I went to Windows Update and all showed Version 5? :confused:

    I wonder if its a random or country thing... or I was just lucky this morning?!


    just had a look around some other sites to see if any more news on WU v6 came across this

    I still show v5 with no available updates...except for 2 drivers I REFUSE to install! lol

    Halo,
    First time I didn't try your link and just used the Window's Update feature. I tried the link that you provided and also came up with Version 6. I declined to install the software. Did this happen to you when you went to scan for updates? Normally, if there are any critical updates they are shown in my initial scan. How did you come across this link? :confused:

    I copy/pasted Halo's link into IE and was immediately prompted to install the update to v6...I did so of course:) Thanks David!

    I assume that Microsoft is doing this (possibly) by region like they have with other things in the past so their server isn't overwhelmed...maybe? :D

    I dont have Auto Update feature enabled as I like to find out what updates are available first before installing as some are just not useful to me, so I use a bookmarked link direct to MS WU... and thats how I was re-directed to that link.

    Yes, I was asked to download the latest WU ActiveX Install Engine... it most likely does its check to see if you have a genuine licence for the OS and then installs the updater.

    Yes it is....I don't use the auto-update feature either...for the most part...I have it set to notify me of updates so I can then decide if it's something I actually want to get or not...if I go a week without seeing that little icon showing up I check manually just to make sure I didn't miss something:)
