I've tried everything I could find, but can't seem to get Windows Update to install a critical update -- KB2446710 an update for the .NET Framework 3.5.1.
I've used every Microsoft repair tool for Update and .NET Framework, have tried uninstalling .NET Framework and reinstalling, have tried installing the update manually, and by downloading it from the Microsoft site, but it just won't work.
Not sure this is a major issue, but having just gone through a major malware issue that one of your malware geniuses (chaslang) helped resolve, I'm feeling particularly risk averse, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you. I gave that a try, but unfortunately the search for "Assembly" didn't produce any results.

It didn't bring up any results for me either, that just means neither of us were running anything that required .NET at the time. In my case, not surprising as I tend to steer clear of anything that needs it, the major exception being my debugging tools.

I'd say there's a good chance that you don't actually need it, that the MS/Windows Update scan got it wrong. Run the cleanup tool as mentioned here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=280614 and reboot then check for updates again.

It finally seems to have worked itself out. The updates installed successfully, and I'm now able to check for new updates with Windows Update.
Thank you very much for your help . . . guess I was a little panicky, but not surprising after the recent malware issues.

Spoke too soon . . . still stuck, now on installing Win 7 Update KB2882822. It says it installs properly, but then shows it as still ready to install. And it still won't let me check for other updates, as there is an "important" update that needs to finish installation.
Guess I'll have to check the Microsoft forums, as useless as those usually turn out to be.
    Again, thanks for your help!

Ensure that you disable/suspend your security software until after a reboot when you install updates, it should minimize any outside interference.

KB2882822 is a prep to install IE 11. You don't need this right away.
In fact, MS has a tool businesses can run so IE 11 will not be installed through auto update.
I have this update hidden on our three Win 7 computers because I'm on no hurry to install IE 11! I dragged my feet on installing IE 10 until I felt there were no more major issues. (In fact, I NEVER fire up IE on the Win 7 computers).
