I've just organised Vista to download about 25 updates, mostly to Vista, and the stupid machine's got stuck in a loop.

It starts up, immediatley says :Configuring updates Stage 3 o3 - 0% complete Do not switch off"

Then it says "Shutting down" and does

Then it restarts and goes through it all again.

    Any ideas?

Does it give you opportunity before it gets "stuck" to go in and reconfigure the updates? If so, just download one update at a time, so you can figure out which is causing it this issue. Let us know which one it is - there are several Vista experts on here who would be able to advise on that specific update then.

If it doesn;t allow you to break out of this loop to do this, let us know that too.

If it does not give you the oppertunity, boot into safe mode and cancel the updates.

    Thanks, boys.
    1. No chance at all to get in and cancel the updates,
    2. Same looping in Safe mode.

I finally took the hard drive out, stuck it in a caddy case and connected it to another computer, took off everything I needed and formatted the thing.
