Downloaded new Windows Update Mini Tool. It has run now almost 4 hours.

Using $14.99/mo slowish internet w/ wi-fi, and have not recently updated which could justify a long wait, but it would be nice to know if I'm waiting in vain due to some different problem. Maybe some setting is blocking it?

Task manager shows wumt_x64.exe apparently using nothing, but a svchost.exe process is at 25%.

Will it be apparent if WUMT is having trouble??? Or if it LOOKS like it's working, is it always really working?

I have checked "download only" and the "searching for updates" is scanning.

Computer: HP Probook 4530s all components unchanged, Windows 7.

Sorry if it's just me being impatient. Thanks.

Are you running antivirus like Avast or AVG?

I'm using Avira. Do any updates for a Windows 7 system even exist any more? It's now run since just after noon with no result.

Haha just noticed it took 4 hours just to get this far:
4:44 PM: Initialization status for service objects.
4:44 PM: The Software Protection service has completed licensing status check.

Laptop has just been sitting in a corner all day ("Bad computer!") and that's all it did? There must be a way I can check that svchost.exe process to see if it's working on this but I don't know how.

I run Win 7, 8.1 and 10 on two computers. Extended support for Windows 7 will continue until sometime in 2020.

Turn off Realtime Protection in Avira until after you're done with Updates then, turn it back on.

Thank you mdonah... I had to shut it down after 11 hours to leave for a few days but that is exactly what I'll try when I return week after next. Sure wish it had something to display progress, or at least let one know if it isn't working. Maybe Avira gives a warning, but I didn't see anything (?).

Some antivirus programs "block" Windows Updates that are being downloaded by third party programs (such as Windows Update Minitool).
