I am having a problem with windows update, NOTHING DOWNLOADS, it does the scan and then it find the necessary updates needed. I click install and the download window comes up. But then NOTHING DOWNLOADS and nothing gets installed. I have a cable modem and have waited a long time and tryed multiple times to get it going.

I am running Windows XP Pro with SP1
    Cable modem

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix or get some advice on what to do?

P.S. I have done trojan/spyware/virus scan all clean. Also got the updates from the microsoft dload center 1 by 1, and they disappear from the list after another scan. But windows update still doesnt download.

I heard there may be issue using a pirated cd key for windows xp? would that be the cause? I am not sure if mine is or not, a friend installed it for me and said it was legit.

    Pls help if you can.

    Thanks

    JOE

Do you have any specific error messages? If there is a C"\WUTEMP" directory, delete that and it will ignore anything in process of downloading and restart. Seen that quite a few times.

I am pretty sure you have a pirate copy of XP.

Because the new windows update version 5.0

Check for pirated copy of XP.

If it's a pirated copy nothing happen, like you said.....

In the address bar if you see ://v5.windowsupdate..........

Yeah what was said earlier is true. If you are running SP1 then windowsupdate.com will be v4. v5 comes out with the 2nd one.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond, there are no error messages at all, the windows update download window comes up as always, but never starts downloading. I have waited for the window to error out or close or start for an hour + with it just sitting there. When I close the wondow finaly it asks "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?". Also I do have C"\WUTEMP" and this folder is EMPTY. I am running SP1 and V4 comes up for the update window.

P.S. All other downloads from various sites work fine as well as downloading the updates 1 at a time from microsoft. Just the Windows Update.
