(1) I am desperately seeking how to Start a New Thread here on Major Geeks. Have looked everywhere with no luck. (2) However, your post on MICROSOFT fits my question, which I hope you might be able to answer or lead me in the right direction. My Windows Update just sits there doing nothing. I thought it might have to do with the fact that I upgraded from dial-up to aDSL although I don't know why. I am now using SBC Yahoo Browser, which is a shell of Internet Explorer and have Windows XP. I think we all know that Microsoft is impossible to contact! I would appreciate ANYONE who could solve this problem for me. It would certainly make my day. Many Thanks, Helen

basically pick the correct forum title ... Software is the one you need then look on the left side for a button named "NEW THREAD" click that and put title of you thread .... use something like "cannot get to windows update" and post the same stuff you posted here... make sure to add what windows version you are using.

I say post a new thread as it will get more people viewing it rather than link into another titles post.... then we can start helping you

Even though SBC Yahoo Browser is a shell of IE, try using IE anyways. It might change it. I know that the same problem happens with mozilla.

Helen are you using Auto Updates or going to windows update via the url http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp if you are not using the url then please try it and see how you get on?

By just sits there do you mean you can see the update page adn the counter is reading 0% ?

the more info you can give us like whats on the screen and any messages or error messages will be usefull.

NN, agree with trying IE. I have AOL and had trouble getting MS updates. Minimising AOL and launching IE solved the problem for me. . Had a similar problem accessing an on-line bank, going to IE worked also. Bazza
