Windows Update problems

The updates downloaded OK, but NONE of 'em will install. All 82 error out and say "The following updates failed to install successfully:". It's Windows XP Home SP2 and I just did a repair install because the motherboard was swapped out (old board died). All the drivers are in and working fine. No malware (that was the first thing I checked). I ran Dial-A-Fix, I've added the Windows update sites to the Trusted List, but they will not install...

i had a problem a while ago after installing xp sp2 and after a lot of frustrating searches for a remedy i was instructed to go into windows software distribution folder and delete the download folder then allow the auto update download and install the updates from scratch this was successful

I went to the MSKB and found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
I tried to follow the steps but wups32.dll is missing! I think this is main cause of all the problems I'm having. Any ideas?

(iwunder: I'll try your suggestion. I'm pretty I've already tried it, but I'll do it again.)

 

sorry dlb had to duck out done a search on my computer for that dll file and came up with nothing but had a thought that your problem might lie with not that file but with an error with your windows installer i once had a similar problem installing updates and this was the problem also had to switch off auto updates then delete or uninstall the windows installer and go to the Microsoft update site and manually install the updates

Worth a try? Dicey I'd say as off now. It's still being updated. It does sound interesting though. Worth keeping a watch on. Cheers...

 

It's been out for longer than a week.
I myself have used it on 5 PC's the last 2 months, and it solved the problem every time.

 

Am I missing some thing?

Note:
I do thorough testing of each release, but I need to know if anyone gets unexpected results by running the tool.
If it doesn’t fix the problem, you should open a case with Microsoft, but if the tool causes some problem, I want to know about it ASAP.


Please do not redistribute this tool on other internet sites. I would like for this to be the distribution point so that as I update it, users will get the most recent version.

I manually installed MSI 4.5 and cleaned all temp files using four different temp cleaners. That seemed to do it! :celebrate

(weird fix though rolleyes )

I will check out the app linked to above.... it does look promising.
