I can access the site but it does not scan for approriate updates for XP Home.
I get the following when I access the page but then nothing happens.
I have cookies and active x controls enabled.
Any ideas as what to do?\
    Thanks

Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.

    Hi gulfvis,

I have a ton of activeX and crapware blockers active as well and don"t have any problems. Is this the link you use?
    http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us
And, yes, it sometimes takes a while if your connection is slow.

What are your Automatic Update settings? Start - Rightclick My Computer - Properties - Automatic Updates Tab. I think a saw a thread saying that this needed to be enabled.

Yes that is the same address I use to go to the update site. I have the Auto Update Service running. I am on a broadband connection so I am aware of the speed the site should have. The inability to have the site function is a recent event. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks

One more thing occurred to me. Did automatic updates download and install SP2? There seem to be a lot of SP2 Windows Firewall issues cropping up - some involving WU. Could it be a firewall problem?

Sorry I'm not more help. I'm not too bright  ;)

It's possible that I did get the SP2 update. It was not long after that I could no longer get a response from the update site. Previously it would say it was scanning for updates and give a percentage of scan and then list the available updates. Where do I check for the SP2 Firewalls? I am not too smart about this stuff either so don't feel bad. Thanks for the reply.

After looking at My Computer and System it shows that it is XP Home SP!

I had to do an undestructive recovery of my pc the other day so that is about the time that I started to have problems.

No that still did not work. I guess I have a bigger problem than I had first thought. I think I got the SP2 update before doing a non destructive recovery on my pc. Even though my sytstem says it is XP Home SP 1, the SP2 hotfixes appear in the Add/Remove Programs. None of the previous hotfixes are present. It was after the recovey that I started to experience problems with the updated site.

Maybe this added info can help someone find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks

Can I get rid of the tow Sp2 hotfixes that are present in the Add/Remove Programs? Is it safe to remove them?

Read Kodo's last post more carefully. The SP2 references you see probably have nothing to do with the current SP2 download.
