    Hello,

My Windows Updater appears to run fine, except that the updates fail to install.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 (32-bit)

Windows Help told me to manually download and install the System Update Readiness Tool (112MB! geeze what's IN this thing?), which I did.

Running it though, it seemed to hang. The drive made a bunch of noise but there was no progress otherwise. I gave it 30 minutes and no luck.

The window said, "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)..."

But otherwise it just sat there mocking me.:p

    Thanks for any help!

PS: I have done the malware removal procedures as per the malware forums (as well as a few other recommended scans) and have found nothing malicious.

    Hi

Do any of the updates give you an error message, can find this in the Update History and then click one of the failed updates.

Can try this HERE to reset Windows Update components, then try WU again (but also disable your Firewall and AntiVirus software to test they are not blocking WU)

Code 800B0100 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I'll repost when I get a chance to try the reset.

    Thanks!

I have the same issue with my laptop, I have the exact same error trying to install the exact same update. Tried the update readiness tool and it did nothing, pretty much word for word what you just said except a different windows version and probably different hardware.

Do you also have issues with occasional freezes and BSOD's that happen with no apparent cause or consistently at completely random times? I was wondering if the 2 may be related on my laptop.

I just tried the windows update reset. It couldn't stop something called Cryptographic services, which it needed to do in order to continue, couldn't even do it in aggressive mode.

them: My only real issue (that I have noticed) is the Windows Update fail. I would recommend starting your own thread here, though. All machines are different and the fixes aren't universal- not to mention prodding at angry gremlins the wrong way, in my experience, can often aggrevate them!

Ok- I have tried the reccomended reset (the first try failed, but resetting in aggressive mode worked), and was promted to restart, which I did. My Windows Update seemed to run perfectly, followed by another restart, and right about now everything seems to be running smoothly.

    Thanks again- I couldn't be happier! :-D
    Cheers,
