I really hate the thing that keeps popping up telling you to restart your computer after you do a windows update. It's not like I'm going to leave my computer on for a year and never restart, so when I say I'm going to restart later, I will. Instead, this thing keeps nagging me and when I was playing Freecell and I was about to win, this thing pops up and I accidentally click the "Restart Now" button.

Does anybody know how to turn this nagging box off other than going into services and turning the whole windows update service off?

They want you to restart as soon as possible, as installing other softare before a reboot installing any patches/security updates may damage/affect those same system files. Just easier to reboot when requested. Its a pain, but the safe way to do it.

    Hi

Agree with Coleman on really needing to reboot at some point to install the updates, but you could if you have a Windows version with Group Policy (gpedit.msc) disable the auto restart after auto updates, from Group Policy navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update then double click "No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installation" > Select Enabled and click OK *this one will not allow an auto restart but does enable that nag mesasge but the next bit allows you to extend the nag time

in same GP location is this "Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations" and select Enabled and add a time in minutes for the nag interval 1440 mins is 1 day, so add your own, while you will get the message once, the interval will be as long as you want.

or you could run this as a one off after the first nag comes up Leavemealone

For the Reprompt for restart policy, can I just set it to disable instead of enable and adding a time?

You could also reset the default Windows Udpate process to Download Updates but Let me Choose When to Install.... but it may give a Security Center warning at some point to turning off auto install, but worth a try but do remember the onus is on you now to install the updates over the system doing it automatically.
