    Aloha,

Recently had malware that was fixed but am unable to do a Windows update (Error Code 80246008)

Tried to start the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" but is not in services. Also tried WinFix but it did not work either.

    Please help!

    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
    Acer Aspire 7560
    64 bit OS

Did you try a disk check or a restore ?? Also, when you removed your malware, did you happen to use Combofix ??

  5. doctorforgolf

    doctorforgolf Private E-2

I did run a Check Disc and ComboFix was apart of the Malware fix.

Have you tried turning off your firewall/security programs? Sometimes incomplete installs will cause these problems. You said you used ComboFix, which can be dangerous if you don't know exactly what it is removing. It may have removed something you didn't need removed.

    Try this:
Download your AV/Firewall/Security and then go offline. Uninstall the existing ones and reinstall them with the new files you downloaded. Go back online and see if updates work.

I tried open and shut off windows firewall but it won't open. I Shut off antivirus software and still windows firewall won't open or windows update won't open. Combofix was used by the Major Geeks malware guys.

    I did this:
    Try this:
Download your AV/Firewall/Security and then go offline. Uninstall the existing ones and reinstall them with the new files you downloaded. Go back online and see if updates work.

The installation of AVG or Superantispyware will not work if not connected to the internet. So I went online and they still would not install. When trying to install AVG I got this message, "The Windows Installer Services could not be accessed". So now I have no protection.

Go into "Safe Mode with Networking" and try installing an AV and SAS.

OK I was able to install AVG but not SAS :)

Do you have a repair install option, or head back to the Read and Run Me First Malware forum, to do another Malware check.

  19. doctorforgolf

I do not have a repair install option. I will go back to the Malware forum. THANK YOU!

Confusing. Try Safe Mode with Networking and try to download Tweaking.com, install it, then leave safe mode and run it.

I tried Safe Mode with Networking and downloaded Tweaking.com, install it, but it would not run. I also did the "If you don't have BITS service or cannot to run it,none of previous method help..." Windows update still does not open :(

Do you have the BITS service now listed? Is it started?

I am unable to open "Services" to check. Is that where I would check?

Go to Control Panel, click on Administrative Tools, and click Services, or open the Start Menu, and in the search line type, services.msc and press enter.
Scroll until you see Background Intelligent Transfer Services, and check if it is started, if not click start in the left corner. If you didn't know if it was in Services,, how did you know it wasn't there or started or not ?? Just wondering.

  27. doctorforgolf

Attempted both ways to access "Services" and get an error message "Class not registered" I found out by working with the malware guys.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.

Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    The click the Start button.
Create a System Restore point if prompted.
On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
Now select the following repair options:

    Reset Registry Permissions
    Reset File Permissions
    Register System Files
    Repair WMI
    Repair Windows Firewall
    Remove Policies Set By Infections
    Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
    Repair Proxy Settings
    Repair Windows Updates
Set Windows Services To Default Startup

Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    Now click the Start button.
Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
It should reboot automatically when finished.

Do you have your install disc? If so, go to start / run / and type in:
    sfc /scannow.

I have Factory Default Backup discs that I made when I first got this laptop but not a install disc. I tried the sfc /scannow and a small black popup appeared briefly and disappeared.

Was following this thread and also similar issues on another techsite. This is in regards to BITS. Effects of a new variant of ZeroAccess. To think the fix was simple.

    http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=102903.0

I'll not post a link of the other techsite, but the above is from Avast's forum.
    Head to page two.

I'll quote essexboy and kudos to him. It deletes the service.
    Open an elevated command prompt:
Next download and run the Reg fix from plodr's post#22 or from essexboy's post. If you are interested in the other techsite's link I can PM you the link as Windows Updated. :)

    Cheers..

    Cheers..
