windows update

can someone help.
after reinstalling xp pro last week.
i did all my updating sp1 and secrurity etc.
but now it will not up date and i have'nt been able to access msn account.

i tried some of the surgestions but did not help.

 

What error message do you get? (Windows Update)

Damn. I was hoping for an easy fix,, as update won't work with the wrong date. I found nothing with the numbers you gave me. Sounds like some part of SP1, or one of your secutity updates didn't install correctly, or completely.

jiggy, check in Windows Services & see if Cryptographic Servics is disabled. Since that was your error message, I'd start with that. Crypto needs to be running for several different things.

and i stop and restarted but still no good

 

This error is close but I don't know whether you get a cigar.

Windows Update - Error

If you cannot update XP check your c:\windows\windows update.log. If you have this error: Error 0x800C0008 then go to Tools\internet options\languages. You must have one language selected. Boom windows update works again!

Or for LAN settings

Go to control panel, open up Internet Options\Connections. Click on the Lan Settings button at the bottom right of the window. Untick Automatically detect settings.
