    OK, Yesterday I installed Windows Media Player 11..... Looks good, works good... Today, however, is another story :cry

    The icon came into my tray for windows automatic update. Didn't think anything of it at first, but after a while, I hovered my mouse over it, and seen this display: "downloading updates 0%" I thought, Gee, that is odd, so I went to Windows Update, and clicked EXPRESS, and it showed I had 5 critical updates.... I clicked install.... Every single one of them failed... :cry

    KB959772 Failed error 0x802003F
    KB954154 Failed error 0x802003F
    KB939683 Failed error 0x802003F
    KB936782 Failed error 0x802003F
    KB919399 Failed error 0x802003F

    I also went back, and did the CUSTOM button, clicked INSTALL, and the same result... I have Windows XP Professional, SP3, x86 family based, IE7,

    What can cause this? I ended up with "O" installed updates. :confused

    OK, again, too late to 'edit'..... Here is the error I am getting, no matter how I try to download the updates:

    Installation Failure

    Error Code: 0x8020003F

    Any ideas?

    Windows Installer sometimes fills up and can't proceed. But then you just run Dial-a-fix and/or reinstall Windows Installer and continue. In Dial-a-fix you put check marks in "Flush Software distribution" and "Fix Windows update". Then click "GO".

    Windows Installer 4.5 will bring a little extra installer for the occasion so is does not depend on the old blocked one inside your PC. It's the last download option on the list.

    Hello Cordialis, I don't quite understand your last post :confused Should I download both? :confused

    Also, I did get all the updates, I went to Microsoft website, searched the KB#, and picked them all up ONE at a time... manually.... The download manager helped me with that, however, I sure would like to see my AU picking up all these critical updates, instead of me.... Please advise on what I should be doing.. Thank you ;)

    No, just try Dial-a-fix first. It's what one usually would do. Well, actually both methods should work equally well...

    OK, Cordialis, I have it downloaded (dial-a-fix), but cannot find what to check mark......

    Check mark WUWAU and that also checks all of the SSL/HTTPS and also programming cores... Then, on FLUSH SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION, I get a whole new dialog box to check.... What do I need to be checking here? Remember, I am on a dial-up connection :confused :confused :confused

    Also, once I click whatever I need to, where does is this file saved in?

    OK, I have dial-a-fix all downloaded, so now it is time to do the check marks, and now I am :confused!
    When I check mark WU/WUAU:
    * fix windows update:
    * Stop Services
    * Register WUAW DLL's
    *Start Services

    Also check marked is the following:
    * SSL/HTTP CRYPTO...?

    Registration Center
    * Programming cores/Runtimes

    FLUSH SOFTWARE: I don't know if I should check YES, NO, or CANCEL.... Should I uncheck anything? leave it as is? I am trying here, it sure sounded simple, but looks way more than I know...... :confused Should all that stuff be checked when I check mark "Fix Windows Update"?
    Thank you..... :confused

    I'll wait until I hear from one of you what to check, before continueing... Thanks.

    Yes, all the tings listed in the "Flush Software distribution" section and in the "Fix Windows update" section should be checked.

    Don't be afraid of the tool. It works fine.

    Don't click the button with the hammer on it, however. It opens a new page with advanced tools and they require expert knowledge. It's also on that page, that there are some tool compatibility problems with IE8.

    You could also just download "Windows Installer 4.5" again via the link I gave you, if you prefer.

    Hello, I just wanted to make sure of what to click, and I won't touch the hammar... I have IE 7, so it should be OK then, eh? I'll do that now. thanks, I had to stop the Wu au because it was sitting in my tray downloading 0% most of the darn day...... Now, on the FLUSH SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION, do I click yes on that one? Do I want all the files to be deleted?

    This is a 'zip file', so where does it go after I close it?

    You'll be fine with EI7. Dial-a-fix wont delete vital files - it'll just organize things nicely again. And yes, you do want "Flush Software distribution" to be checked.

    The zipper residue of Dial-a-fix goes to Temporary Internet Files when you close it and will eventually get deleted. You can search for it and delete remains if you want to be sure. And that is always a good idea.

    Hi Cordialis, the "Flush Software" is a button, and when I click it, it asks me if I want to delete all files, save them , or cancel... There is no check mark for that button.. :confused

    Yes, do that: say yes and let it flush. The necessary files will be recreated.

    1. Click the button "Flush Software distribution"
    2. Say yes
    3. Put check marks in "Fix Windows update"
    4. Click GO

    Let it run. Reboot.
