I have a question regarding Windows Updates.
For example, if I have automatic updates turned off. Fpr example if I get windows update service pack 3 and update with this - does this contain all updates proir to this also. Is there a need to update service pack 2 and all prior updates on Windows?

Yes it does contain all previous fixes but SP3 is still beta so I wouldn't put it on my main machine. What you could do is grab RyanVM from here and it will update your disc upto and including June patches. You can then grab what's left from WU. This really eases the pain of clean installing, which is what I assume you're doing. BTW, you should have SP2 installed first I believe, I haven't used it since last summer and can't remember.
