Could be any number of things, Robbo.

I suggest you uninstall the updates, then reinstall them one at a time until the problem recurs, then note which one causes the problem and google the KB number of the update for problems (you should probably reboot between each iteration and give a little time to know one way or the other about the last installed update). Uninstall again the pertinent update until you get some resolution. Some people here haven't installed particular, known, problem updates for over a year.

Note that to reinstall them one at a time you'll probably have to turn off automatic updates temporarily to control what gets updated, and you'll have to manually download the updates to a folder and install them one at a time.

If uninstalling the updates produces no change, then the updates weren't the cause. But we all know that MS has had problems with some Windows updates, so it's possible they were.

Could be just a coincidence with the updates, too. You might have picked up a nasty the same day the original updates were made. It's difficult to tell at this point because there are a lot of places to look.

If you have the KB #s of the recently installed updates, you could google each one for problems before going through the uninstalls. That might tell you something with less trouble.

Someone else may have more ideas.

thanks for the advice kipfeet, i have downloaded updates before but always found some problem or other and ended up having to restore, i think i will try to put up with it for a few more day, but i will probably end up restoring to a system image that i made just before i downloaded the pesky updates
    thanks again kipfeet

robbo26, I suggest you only do one update at a time. Use the computer for at least a day then if it seems okay, install another update. Keep doing this and you might track down the one update that is causing the problem.

I have hidden KB2585542 from January in 7 and XP because it seems to cause problems. When I read the all-clear, I'll unhide it and install it.
