Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor says I can upgrade from XP to 7, but Dell's compatibility page, says my system is not compatible (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN146400#Issue 1)

I know I'll have to do a clean install, and will have to reinstall all other software and back up files.

I barely use this computer, and when I do it's for basic tasks.
    I use an ethernet connection.

    Should I go for it?

    Dell XPS DXP051
    Pentium D CPU 2.8GHz
    2.79 GHz. 35 GB Ram
    Dell Service Tag: JMG9CB1

    Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Notes:

Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection, get new driver

Digital INe Detect, Version 1.10, Known Issues

Intel(R) PROSet for Wired Connections, Version 9.30.000, Known Issues

    NetWaiting, version 2.5.12, known issues

(I don't know what any of these do.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

    You can't do it.
The XPS DXP051 is also called 400, for some unknown reason.

I looked to see if Dell provided drivers for your hardware. No drivers.

only XP and 32 bit Vista are supported.

If the vendor does not supply drivers, you might end up with no audio and worse no video. Internet access might be broken. Those are the 3 big things that need to work for a computer to be usable with a different Operating System.

If you want to get away from XP on that computer, I suggest you look at linux which probably will have the proper drivers to get it working.

I've got a Dell Precision M70 (XP Pro originally installed) that I tried Win 7 on and had much the same type of issues you're having. I ditched Win 7.

Everybody had badmouthed Vista but, I tried it anyway (clean install). It runs beautifully and the only driver I had to install was my Sigmatel C Major audio.

I did the same with Win 8.1 (NOT Win 8). Same results.

So, now I dual boot the old girl 8.1/Vista with Win 8.1 as default.

My GWX says it's not compatible with Win 10 because my graphics card driver hasn't had an update to make it compatible with Win 10. But, I've even run Win 10 although at a slightly lower resolution than my card will support.

I tried to run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to make sure my system is ready for Vista but Upgrade Advisor cannot connect to server.

I have norton security. Is Norton interfering?
