Just asking for a friend on this one. They've just bought a new HP PC with a pre-installed windows.

I'm still using XP myself, and don't have much knowledge on the Vista front since I hate it (my fiance's Laptop has it) and refuse to use it.

Anyway, we've been having some trouble creating a rescue CD. Can anyone help with this. Also, is there a way to make a copy of the pre-installed OS in case of a problem or occurance which requires a re-format???

    Hi

Have you followed the advice here:

What would you mean on this, is it that you would just wish to create a copy of the Windows files only to say have a Windows Vista install CD/DVD? as that is not possible sadly.

The creation of the Restore CDs is what is a recovery set in case of re-install needed. However you can get software which is 3rd party to create what is an Image/Clone of the install, plus all installed software and settings and Acronis True Image is a favorite of mine in this area, but some free ones are available here to do this job too.
