I have my daughters laptop and it is running Vista Home Premium. It cannot connect to the internet using IE, Firefox or Chrome. Wireless connects momentarily but drops so I went to a wired connection. Still the same problem.

It is "ON" the network meaning it gets an IP address from my router and I can connect to other PC's on the network with no problem. The icon shows connected to local and Internet, but cannot get to anything outside. In a command prompt I can ping "www.google.com" and I do get a response which seems to say dns is resolving. I installed Malwarebytes from a flash drive but cannot run updates since it cannot get to the internet. I have tried everything.

I have also removed Norton 360 since it was just a demo and not working, I disabled the firewall as well. Any help would be great.

    Thanks,
    Rick

have you run malwarebytes without updating ? sometimes it can clean just enough to get you started

it's usually a trojan that causes no internet access but the first thing to look at would be the ip address your router has assigned and the ip subnet mask ( the subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0 ) if your router ip address range is 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255 make sure the ip address assigned to the laptop is within that range
the ip range varies from router to router instead of being 192.168.0 it might be 192.168.1 or something similar looking at the router setup would tell you which ip address range yours is

Thanks, the removal tool fixed the problem. Another reason I hate Norton!
