Windows Vista Disk Defrag

I am new to Vista and now I have it after using XP for so many years, how do I Disk Defrag on Vista? I have Windows Vista home edition 32-bit on my Dell Inspiron laptop. One more novice question, on Windows XP when you go to disk clean up and they have an option for compressing old files, can I check that? I remember doing that one time and it deleted a Windows XP file which wouldn't let me even boot-up eventhough it says it won't delete anything. I need to know if I can check it without anything deleting again.

 

If you want to run the inbuilt defrag. Start> All Programs>Accessories> Sys Tool >Defrag.
Go through this thread on maintenance. And better defrag utilities. Don't bother with compression.

You don't need to run defrag in Vista. It is scheduled to run itself at regular intervals. The built-in defrag gets a bit of stick in this forum, but tbh it is perfectly adequate for most users needs.
